CLAIM SCENARIOS:
Carpet Snafu Covered
A software and hardware consultant was installing a new system for his customer. When moving a desk to access the LAN cables, the desk leg caught and tore the carpeting in the office. Turns out the carpet was brand new and very expensive and the customer was extremely upset about the damage. So, we replaced the entire carpet for the customer. This damage was covered under the general liability coverage within our program. $15,000 is better spent out of our pocket than yours. |
$60K Social Engineering Loss
An employee in the accounting department of a large transportation company received an email from the CEO of the company asking them to transfer $60,000 from their operating account into a new account he just set up. Little did the employee know, the CEO never sent that email. While the tags on the email all checked out and looked to be legitimate, the email was a social engineering scam. A typically crime policy does not cover this type of cyber crime. The company had to eat the $60,000 as once the money was transferred, it was out of the country and unable to be recaptured. Had they had the right cyber liability coverage, this unfortunate circumstance would have been covered. |
Malware Breach Costs $62 Million
An audio and video contractor was serving a large retailer. The contractor used a remote diagnostic devise to analyze the retailer's systems to see which speakers and lights needed to be serviced. When the contractor connected to the retailer's systems, a virus hidden within the contractors system uploaded to the retailer's systems. The virus attached to the retailer's POS systems causing all of their credit card machines to go down in the metro NY area. The retailer lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales. The contractor was on the hook for the breech in security. Luckily, the right coverage was in place, and the policy, not the contractor, paid to cover the loss. |
